Hello guys, welcome to another post in series of Xiaomi phones tips and tricks. This is a quick update on How to Update Redmi Note 3 to Marshmallow Without Rooting Your Phone. You guys probably be aware of MIUI 8 OS rolled out recently by Xiaomi. Even most xiaomi phones getting OTA update for the same. Though you get MIUI 8, you might be notice android version is still lollipop and not latest version of android i.e. Marshmallow.
Basically MIUI 8 is custom UI skin developed to incorporate marshmallow features and xiaomi smartphones now getting MIUI 8 software updates will have lollipop only. Xiaomi yet to release Marshmallow along with MIUI 8 OS.
Although Xiaomi has started rolling out the OTA update, here’s the instructions to try beta version of Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your Redmi Note 3 phone. This is the official update, no rooting required, which will be available to all users who are on the beta ROM by installing MIUI 8 v6.9.9 global beta ROM. So let’s get started now.
Note: Please keep in mind this is just for the non-rooted users, if you have rooted your smartphone then please download the FastBoot ROM from the source and also all your fingerprints will be removed after the update since Android Marshmallow comes with native support, your phone however will still be protected by the pattern or pin you used earlier.
Always remember beta ROM have minor glitches and bugs often, so proceed at your own risk. But beta ROM can fit into daily usage. Its purely users choice to install and use beta ROM ahead of official stable ROM release.
Okay, If you are inquisitive enough to try new flavor, here we jotting down steps to install Android 6.0 Marshmallow on your Redmi Note 3 phone successfully.
Step 1: Please make sure your phone have enough juice at least 60% of charge
Step 2: Download the update package for Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Snapdragon – Recovery ROM (MIUI 8 v6.9.9) from MIUI link – http://bigota.d.miui.com/6.9.9/miui_HMNote3ProGlobal_6.9.9_f26648d8b5_6.0.zip
Step 3: Copy the downloaded update to the internal storage of the Redmi Note 3
Step 4: Backup your data, your phone may be formatted, you can use MIUI backup app to both backup your files, messages etc and then later restore.
Step 5: Open the Updater App from Tools Folder in your phone home screen.
Step 6: Tap on the Overflow menu button (three dots).
Step 7: Tap on “Choose update package”, and browse to update file you downloaded earlier.
Step 8: Tap on the file and the update would begin shortly after that.
Your phone may reboot a couple of times during the installation, that’s normal. Just wait for some time to complete the update.
